Revolutionary Positioning Security

When layered, PinkProtect components create a non-permanent bond up 11X more secure than traditional positioning-material combinations, and more than double that of other foam-based combinations.

The stability of PinkProtect components used in conjunction with one another eliminates the need for tape, increases positioning security, and saves valuable OR time.

For detailed testing methods, data, and to learn more, please contact Xodus Medical.

Simple, Safe Solutions that Help Patient Safety Advocates Meet

AORN
Guidelines & Recommendations

Official AORN Guidelines Recommend2

  • “A patient in the lateral position is at risk for injury from pressure on vulnerable points on the dependent side.” Section 10.0 - Positioning the Patient
  • “During prolonged surgery in the lateral position, the patient can experience local muscle compression with ischemia and subsequent reperfusion injury leading to compartment syndrome or rhabdomyolysis.” Section 10.1 - Positioning the Patient

  • “Relieve, reduce, and redistribute contact pressure at bony prominences.” Section 3.13 - Positioning the Patient
  • “The lateral position increases the risk for injury to the common perineal nerve. Using padding helps to protect the perineal nerve on the dependent leg from being compressed between the fibula and the OR bed.” Section 10.10 - Positioning the Patient
  • “Do not use a horseshoe-shaped head positioner for patients in the prone, lateral, sitting, or semi-sitting positions.” Section 3.25 - Positioning the Patient
  • “Place a pillow or head positioner under the patient’s head with the dependent ear assessed after positioning.” Section 10.3 - Positioning the Patient
  • “Place an axillary roll under the patient’s dependent thorax, distal to the axillary fold, at the level of the seventh to the ninth rib.” Section 10.5 - Positioning the Patient
  • “Maintain the patient’s physiologic spinal and neck alignment.” Section 10.6 - Positioning the Patient
  • “Place safety straps across the patient’s hips.” Section 10.8 - Positioning the Patient
  • “A standardized product selection process assists in the selection of functional and reliable products that are safe, cost-effective, and environmentally preferable and that promote quality care, as well as decreases duplication or rapid obsolescence.” Section 1.1 - Environmental Cleaning
  • “Hyperextension of the neck can stretch the brachial plexus, lead to cardiovascular complications associated with compression or mechanical manipulation of the carotid sinus, or injure the spinal cord.” Section 3.8.1 - Safe Patient Positioning

Proven Pressure Management

In a study of 15 subjects ranging from 16-54 BMI (average BMI 35.5), the Pink Pad provided an average peak pressure reduction of 43%.

US Government Data3 show Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPIs):
  • Are the direct cause of death for roughly 60,000 patients each year
  • Add an estimated $43,180 in costs per hospital stay
  • Result in more than 17,000 medical lawsuits, annually (the second most common claim after wrongful death)
  • Increase hospital stays by nine days on average

Images shown are of the same 30.85 BMI subject, on a solid surface, with and without the Pink Pad. Tests were conducted with an Xsensor Sensor Pad Model PX 100:48.144.02

Establish a Best-Practice Standard of Care

Reduced HAPI

Reduce HAPI Risk

The Pink Pad is made specifically for direct skin contact with materials that are immersive, enveloping, soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking. Its design maintains skin protection while supporting patient safety.

Independent studies show it effectively reduces erythema compared to other positioning systems.4

Stopwatch

Optimize Efficiency

  • Setup time: less than 1 minute
  • In clinical trials, an average of 15-20 minutes of OR time was saved during initial patient positioning
  • Faster, easier, safer repositioning of patients whenever necessary

Improve Infection Control

Improve Infection Control

Single-use designs improve workflow and eliminate cross-contamination and Hospital-Acquired Infection (HAI) risks. Removing custom assembly standardizes patient-safety practices. Avoiding tape in patient positioning prevents equipment damage and improves infection control in the OR.

Surgical site infections account for nearly 22% of the more than 700,000 HAIs that occur annually in the Unites States.5

Clinical Feedback

For years prior to the introduction of Pink Lat Packs, we at Yale New Haven Hospital relied on reusable devices for patient positioning in the lateral-decubitus position. Particularly during kidney transplant (laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy) surgeries, which require a modified lateral position, patient movement/slippage as well as skin-shear were constant concerns. Interrupting procedures to reposition patients could negatively impact both patient safety and surgical efficiency.

Pink Lat Packs are now an important component of our efforts to safely secure our patients, protect their skin and, ultimately, improve surgical outcomes.
—  Wilma Flores, BSN, RN, CNOR
Perioperative RN Specialty Coordinator, Transplant & Vascular Service
Yale New Haven Hospital
Prior to working with Xodus Medical, a solution for lateral positioning that was both safe and efficient simply did not exist. The Lat Packs combine skin-friendly materials with smart configurations that ensure a consistent standard of care. They save our OR a significant amount of time, especially during setup. Most importantly, the safety of our patients is better than ever.
—  Dr. Domenico Savatta, MD
Chief of Minimally Invasive and Robotic
Adult Urologic Surgery
New Jersey
Our NeuroSpine team frequently needs to position patients laterally. Maximizing access to the surgical site as well as guaranteeing stability have, in the past, been competing interests. Additionally, our cases tend to be very lengthy. Pink Lat Packs that include the “Savatta” one-piece leg shelf allow us to accomplish all of our positioning goals in one system. Now, our favorite part of positioning is the stabilization provided by the Leg Shelf.

It's quick, easy, and a "no-brainer" when it comes to patient safety.
—  Hunter Schwarz
RN, Neurosurgery Coordinator

Upgrading from antiquated “bean bag” positioners was the right move for our patients and staff. Xodus Medical provided us options ranging from a variety of preconfigured kits to complete, custom configurations tailored to our unique needs.
—  Tiffany Morris
RN, BSN, CNOR
We were already impressed by the time-saving setup as well as the stability provided throughout the procedure; but we became believers when we observed the healthy skin of our patients — completely devoid of erythema after every case.
—  Michelle Weston
MBA, BSN, RN, NPD-BC, CNOR
What surprised us most about Pink Lat Packs was the stability and support they provide patients in the Lateral Decubitus position — components “lock” together and create an ideal foundation for safe surgery.
—  Matthew Puc, MD
Chief - Section of Thoracic Surgery
Our team saved nearly 20 minutes of setup time using Pink Lat Packs relative to our outgoing solution. Additionally, we eliminated the need to use “makeshift” positioning that involved lots of tape, rolling of blankets, cutting of foam, etc.
—  Diana Bravyak
MSN, RN, CNOR
Pink Lat Packs are not a one-time upgrade; they raise safety standards for all of today’s patients, as well as those in the future. The cumulative, long-term benefit from every individual patient safety “win” is quite powerful.
